So my tires are near the recommended replacement level (the tread is still a hair over George Washington’s head). I leave to go to the store and am being cautious because of the light rain. I make a right turn, from a stop, onto a road where the speed limit is 45 mph. I’m accelerating, at about half throttle, in 3rd gear when. hmmmmmRAAAAAAAHHHH. The front wheels start spinning. Car goes a little askew, but i recover while staying well within my lane.

On the way back I’m at another intersection trying to make a left turn on a yellow arrow. There’s a car coming the other way, but I have plenty of time to make it. So I shift early into 2nd, taking into account the rain, and at only 1/4 throttle spin the wheels again. I made it through, although closer than it needed to be. I can’t help, but wonder if either of those two times would’ve put me in a ditch if it’d been RWD.

Yeah, I know someone’s gonna go on a rant about how important tires are. I get that, but mine had sufficient tread and I wasn’t driving aggressively at all, since I know my tires are near needing to be replaced and my car’s only nanny is ABS. It’s a 140 Integra too, not some 250 hp hot hatch.

My 4runner will spin the rears alarmingly easily in even slightly damp conditions.

It kind of makes you wonder about in the 60's when everything had V8's, RWD, and terrible suspension. How drifting didn’t start in American lol

Same with my LS400. I’m ordering a set of studded snow tires for the winter.

If you were in a rwd vehicle, All you would have to do is control the slide. Its not that difficult. I used to drive my RWD 5 speed manual 22 year old Ford Ranger 800 miles a week in Morrison, Colorado. In Blizzard conditions, mind you

Don’t forget the shitty tires they had back then too!

Probably violates rule one. Don’t know if the mods will let this slide.

True, perhaps I need more inclement weather practice. Learning to drive in Texas under constant droughts probably wasn’t great for that lol

Lol, true. I learned how to drive stick in my truck in the middle of November in Colorado, with little to no driving experience at all. I’d say not ideal either... on the opposite side of the spectrum, lol

Risk of being in a ditch is all part of the RWD fun ;)

Thank you for standing up for me, I was afraid all the good guys on Oppo jumped ship after the plethora of bullshit fights that happened

With a FWD car on worn tires, that’s just annoying. In a RWD car on worn tires, you just apply a little bit of opposite lock to keep the car going straight and enjoy a rolling burnout until you finally get traction at 40 MPH. Apply or gently remove throttle depending on how long you want your tires to last. I got my Nokian i3s mounted two days later.

you know, I WAS going to be nice, then i remembered how you accused me of being an idiot and not knowing how to drive on snow. (sure, lets tell the CANADIAN he doesnt know how to drive on snow)
and then you try to defend you decisions of not stopping.

What goes around comes around :)

My car does this too, even with 275 width continental extreme contact DWS’s that are basically brand new. Oh the road has damp spots in some places? Better not even think about using more than 2% throttle until getting over 45.

You should see how my boss gets his bald tires on his white M4 to work when it’s a few degrees below freezing.

My fathers Tacoma has 8 year old tires that still have some tread. That thing is FUN in the rain.

You do know what Oppo is short for right? I would safely say neither of those 2 times would put you in the ditch.

*yes I’ve crashed drifting, that was 40+mph in the dry and I knew that car was going to be a right off at some point

My 81 Scirocco S spins through the first two gears in wet conditions, even with decent tires (with 265k miles on the original drivetrain). Traction control is overrated.
